Reflection:
I chose to use the Thesis Builder to prepare a persuasive thesis and outline. I recently put together a Live Binder about Open Educational Resources, thus I chose to use this topic to test out the Thesis Builder. Overall, it was very user friendly. The site prompts the user to enter a topic, the opinion about the topic, 2 supporting details and 1 opposing viewpoint. It then configures all of that information into a thesis. The thesis is awkwardly stated with hideous punctuation, but gives the user a pretty clear idea for how the thesis should be written. It is an excellent starting point,; a bit of editing would make the thesis great. I took it another step further to see what the “quicky” outline would look like. This is great, too. It gives the user a basic outline using the information that was plugged into the thesis builder. The best part is that it also gives tips and asks questions of the writer, which will help with elaboration of ideas. I would not hesitate to recommend this for my students. It is true that they must have enough knowledge for the topic in order to know supporting and refuting ideas. It is a good way to get students started.
